About

S. Alex Ruthmann received his master of music and doctor of philosophy degrees in music education from Oakland University and his bachelors degree in music and technology from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He is currently on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Lowell where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, music technology, research, and interdisciplinary courses at the intersection of the arts and computer science. His research interests include online, mobile and collaborative technologies for music learning and teaching, scaffolding creative musical processes, and the development of new technologies for musical expression, creativity and learning. He serves as managing editor for the International Journal of Education & the Arts, is Chair of the Society for Research in Music Education Creativity SRIG, and serves on the editorial/advisory boards of the Journal of Music, Education, & Technology and British Journal of Music Education.
